Obama’s message to Eastern Europe

Published on 2 June 2014

On 3 June, US President Barack Obama is to begin a European tour in Warsaw, where he is expected to meet with leaders of several former communist EU countries to whom he will provide assurances about American commitment to protect the region against Russia's aggressive policy, notes România liberă. On 4 June, Obama will participate in ceremonies to commemorate the Polish Day of Freedom, which marks the 25th anniversary of the first free elections to be held in former communist Europe. Last week, in a speech delivered to the US Military Academy at West Point, Obama outlined a military strategy that emphasises diplomacy and alliances while rejecting military intervention.
