Former Greek Defence Minister and top official in the socialist Pasok party Akis Tsohatzopoulos was jailed for eight years for corruption on March 4
A court in Athens found him guilty of having concealing assets from tax authorities and failing to declare his luxurious villa in Athens, which has since been seized. He is also due to face further charges of embezzlement relating to a number of arms contracts.
This latest sentencing comes only days after the former Mayor of Thessaloniki, Vassilis Papageorgopoulos, (pictured) was sentenced to life imprisonment on embezzlement charges.
The member of the right-of-centre New Democracy party was jailed after he was found guilty of syphoning off €18m of public assets belonging to the country's second city.
