On February 12, the day after the announcement of Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation, the French parliament adopted a law that will make marriage and adoption possible for same-sex couples.
The bill, which was the subject of heated debate in French politics and society, was approved by 329 votes to 229. Ten MPs, including five from the right-wing opposition, abstained.
