Queen Fabiola, the widow of the late King Baudouin, is at the centre of controversy after reports she intends to use public money to fund the opening of a foundation to help family members and Catholic institutions.
The Queen, who receives about €1.4m per year since the death of her husband in 1993, has denied the reports. The debate comes amid the ongoing tension between the Dutch and French speaking communities over the role of the monarchy.
