Student demonstrators attack royalty

“Rioters attack Prince in car,” headlines the Daily Telegraph, in shock after a Rolls Royce containing Prince Charles, the British heir to the throne, was set upon by youth in London. The incident occurred on the 9 December at the end of a day which saw student protests in the capital as parliament voted through an unprecedented trebling of university tuition fees to £9000 (€10,700). “Demonstrators chanting "off with their heads" kicked the Rolls-Royce as it travelled to the Royal Variety Performance” the conservative daily reports. According to an eye witness, “Charles was really calm and smiling at everyone. Camilla [his wife] was beaming too. He was holding his hands out towards them in a gesture that said, 'I’m innocent’.”
