Moldova Parliamentary Elections

‘The battle for Moldova’

The parliamentary elections to be held on 30 November are “of great importance for the Republic of Moldova’s turn towards Europe”, writes Bucharest daily România liberă.
The campaign has been marked by the Appeals Court of Chisinau’s decision to disqualify the pro-Russian Patria party from the race for receiving foreign funds. Russian services are suspected of seeking to impede the country from growing closer to the European Union, as advocated by the outgoing government.
The daily wonders what Moscow’s position towards the russophone separatist region of Transniestria would be if “the votes go once again to pro-European parties” at the national level.
