Two new observation missions have been conducted by the Swedish navy in the Stockholm archipelago “in search of what is thought to be a Russian submarine”, reports Svenska Dagbladet. The obervations conducted since 17 October “indicate that ‘something or someone’ has violated Sweden's territorial integrity”, said Admiral Anders Grenstad, adding that the operation will continue “for quite a while”, and that if a submarine were discovered, weapons could be used to make it surface.
During the Cold War, Soviet submarine sightings in Swedish waters were common and raised security alerts. Russia has been recently accused of spying on Sweden.
