According to diplomatic sources, the United States has asked several European governments to hand over Edward Snowden in the event that he arrives in their territory, reports Die Presse.

The former National Security Agency (NSA) agent, who is wanted for disclosing information about US eavesdropping, has been in legal limbo in Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport since June 23. He is awaiting the outcome of asylum applications, which WikiLeaks has submitted on his behalf, to a list of 21 countries. Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland are all included on the list.

In the wake of Warsaw’s refusal to grant Snowden asylum, the Austrian Interior Minister has said that he would grant the former agent the right to submit a demand for political asylum provided that no international arrest warrant has been issued against him.
