The Parliament of Ukraine voted on 23 December the abolition of the country’s “non-aligned” status in a move that paves the way to NATO membership, reports Den.
According to the Kiev daily, the law — approved by 303 MPs of 445 and supported by President Petro Poroshenko — “establishes ‘Ukraine’s integration into European political, economic, legal space with the purpose of gaining membership in the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic security community’ among the country’s national interest priorities”. Den adds that —

After ten years of “wandering around”, thousands of lives and territories lost. […] After Euromaidan, especially with the war waged against us by Russia against, the abolition of Ukraine’s non-aligned status looks like getting rid of unnecessary ballast.
