One the scythe: Post Mortem Pension
UK Chancellor George Osborne gave his Autumn Statement to Parliament on December 5 revealing stronger than expected levels of economic growth in contrast to the downbeat assessment of the Eurozone’s economic recovery outlined by the European Central Bank.
One element of the Statement included news that the state pension age will rise from 65 to 68 in the mid-2030s and 69 in the mid-2040s.
Cartoonist Steve Bell, who always depicts the chancellor with a “bum-nose”, is parodying the 18th Century etching by John Hamilton Mortimer, Death on a Pale Horse.
