‘Europe the target for master bombmaker’

“Al-Qaeda’s master bombmaker has trained European jihadists to become suicide bombers targeting their home countries,” announces The Times. The daily reports that airport security checks for travel to the United States will be more stringent in the light of evidence that Ibrahim Hassan Tali al-Asiri, “al-Qaeda’s top explosives expert in Yemen, passed on skills and expertise in secret training programmes for foreign fighters in Syria.”

Al-Asiri, age 32, is thought to be the engineer behind a new generation of non-metallic bombs that are small enough to be hidden in underwear or even implanted inside the human body. Western intelligence agencies are increasingly worried that he may have communicated his knowledge to fighters returning from Syria.
