After 19 hours of virtually uninterrupted debate, the Slovenian Parliament endorsed the budgets for 2014 and 2015, which Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek had tied to a vote of confidence in the government.
The budget for “the next two years aims to consolidate” public finances, writes Delo, which explains that the document provides for “a deficit of €1.5bn, or 2.9 per cent of GDP in 2014. A figure that should be reduced to 2.5 per cent 2015.”
In the course of the same session, notes the daily, the parliament adopted legislation on a property tax, which will come into force on January 1, 2014. The measure is expected to collect close to €400m for the state and local governments.
