This crisis is ‘the dictator’s last game’

In this interview, Lithuanian writer Marius Ivaškevičius tells Carl Henrik Fredriksson how the current refugee crisis at the Belarusian-Polish border started and how the EU should tackle it.

All eyes are on the Polish-Belarusian border, where Aleksandr Lukashenka is using migrants from the Middle East to put pressure on the European Union.

However, as writer Marius Ivaškevičius points out, it was at the Lithuanian border everything started. Now, for the EU, to start negotiations with Lukashenka would be nothing but a defeat.

This must not happen – under no circumstances, says Ivaškevičius in a conversation with Debates on Europe’s Carl Henrik Fredriksson.
