UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has suggested his party could work together with Eurosceptic Conservative MPs at the next general election, in a move that threatens to “split the Conservatives”, writes The Times
Mr Farage, whose party wants the UK to withdraw from the EU, said that although a formal pact the Tories would be “nonsensical” because he is “despised” by PM David Cameron, he would let UKIP candidates negotiate deals with prospective MPs from other parties over running joint campaigns.
The idea, which he outlines in an article written for The Times, has been rejected by senior Tories including Chancellor George Osborne.
