The Slovakian government is preparing to take control of gas prices by purchasing the remaining 49 per cent stake in Slovakia’s main gas distributor SPP.

Pravda notes that the deal will see Bratislava acquire the remaining 49 per cent of SPP from EPH Group, which is still in private hands, 10 years after it was nationalised.

Control of the distributor along with an abundance of gas on the market and a pledge from Russia’s Gazprom that it will cut its prices, should enable Bratislava to keep its promise to lower the cost of energy.
