The Vilnius Gay Pride celebration, scheduled for July 27, is set to go ahead after the city's administrative court gave it the green light on July 24.
About 800 people are expected to converge on Gediminas Avenue, the main artery of the Lithuanian capital. This decision is far from unanimous, notes Lithuanian daily Vilniaus Diena, adding that "both sides are prepared for this exceptional show".
The Lithuanian Gay League flooded the city with posters announcing the event and that several members of the European Parliament will participate, the paper reports. For their part, opponents to the march are preparing their response. Three years ago, says Vilniaus Diena they used stones and prayers to combat the Gay Pride march.
