Northern Ireland Protestant organisation The Orange Order has been urged to cooperate with police and turn in any members who have participated in three nights of riots in Belfast, writes The Belfast Telegraph.
Police came under attack on July 14 as pro-union loyalists staged a third evening of occasionally violent public demonstrations. “Footage shows some people wearing Orange sashes and band regalia hurling insults and attacking police lines with sticks and missiles”, writes the daily.
The riots began on July 12, when Protestants holding an annual parade were forbidden from entering a Catholic neighbourhood for fears of provoking the hostilities between the two groups.
