After seven weeks of talks with Dutch PM Mark Rutte and his Christian Democrat ally Maxime Verhagen at the PM's official residence of Catshuis in The Hague, Geert Wilders of the populist Freedom Party withdrew his support from the minority ruling coaltion. Wilders opposes budget cuts demanded by the European Commission, particularly in the pension sector. Rutte submitted his resignation to the Queen on April 23.
