Several weeks after a cyber attack that infected Belgacom's computers and those of its subsidiary BICS, the Belgian telecommunications company is apparently unable to rid itself of malware that was installed on its networks.
On October 3, the chief of the company’s IT staff told the European parliament’s civil liberties committee that the problem had been remedied, however, several sources consulted by De Standaard, who explain that “the malware agents are highly complex and may mutate, which is why they are hard to fight,” believe that this is not the case.
The newspaper adds that —
… in all likelihood, America’s NSA intelligence agency and Britain’s GCHQ are responsible for the cyber attack.
