“Nothing”, headlines De Morgen in Dutch and French. 114 days after the Belgian general election, Bart De Wever, leader of the Flemish nationalist N-VA, walked out of negotiations to form a new government. According to the Flemish daily, talks with the six other parties broke down because the right wing party fears it “might get isolated in a future left-wing government.” “An hour after the announcement of the closure of Opel Antwerp […] all eyes were focused on Bart De Wever’s press conference,” laments an editorialist. “Political logic is given priority over social and economic matters. Not only them, but also us –electors, media- find the government change more important than the social economic reality.”
