“Welcome to the European speed ticket community,” headlines Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, referring to a new Commission directive aimed at identifying and penalising drivers committing traffic offences abroad. According to the new law, member states will be obliged to share traffic offence information, facilitated by a new system that exchanges data on cars and their owners. The Warsaw daily notes that if the Brussels proposal is endorsed, speeding Poles in Belgium will come home to a nasty surprise in their letterbox in the form of a €2,750 fine. The draft directive has already received the backing of the EU transport ministers, DGP adds.
