‘Little Mermaid is not only a symbol’

August 23 marks the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s mermaid heroine, which sits atop a rock looking out to sea from the port of Copenhagen.

To mark the occasion, Politiken publishes statue, setting aside the question of what the mermaid embodies, to evaluate it simply as a work of art.
