Edward Snowden held a press conference at Sheremetevyo airport in Moscow on July 12, speaking publicly for the first time since his arrival in the airport’s international zone on June 23. The former US National Security Agency contractor, who revealed details of the agency’s secretive mass surveillance programs, announced he would seek asylum in Russia while he awaits passage to Latin America.

So far, all of Snowden’s requests for asylum to European countries have been rejected.
