The European Commission wants to reinforce the rights of passengers who seek refunds or compensation in the event of delays.
In particular, it is planning to establish a list of conditions that define cases of force majeur, which is the reason most cited by airlines to justify delays. In exchange, the durations of delays entitling passengers to compensation are to be extended: five hours for a journey of 1,500 kilometres, and nine hours for 3,500 km.
The proposal, which will be debated by the Commission on March 13, comes in response to the growing number of demands for compensation from airlines, points out the daily.
