The chances of a stable government emerging after parliamentary elections in Italy on February 24-25 are slim as none of the parties have secured a clear majority in both chambers of the parliament.
As a result, “Italy may become a soft underbelly of Europe in crisis […] and a nightmare for the eurozone,” warns the Warsaw daily.
According to early estimates, Pier Luigi Bersani’s left wing coalition won 29.8 per cent of the vote, with Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right coalition close behind at 28.9 per cent followed by Beppe Grillo’s Five Star Movement, which scooped 26.4 per cent. PM Mario Monti was pushed to a disappointingly fourth place, polling only 10.9 per cent.
