‘Ties between the Dutch Central Bank and banks is too close’

Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem has called for the Court of Auditors to oversee operations of the the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank, DNB). It was also reported at the weekend, that it would head an investigation into DNB’s role in the SNS Reaal debacle.
In 2008, SNS Reaal, which was crippled by debts, received state financial support, despite DNB concluding its finances were in "good health". On February 1, it was nationalised to save it from bankruptcy.
