Turkish officials reacted angrily to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini and EU Enlargement commissionner Johannes Hahn, who jointly stated on 14 December that “police raids and arrests of a number of journalists and media representatives in Turkey” the same day run “against the European values and standards Turkey aspires to be part of”.
Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Monday that “The EU should mind its own business and keep its own opinions to itself,” adding that the raids did not infringe press freedom.
