“Biden visits Europe”
US president Joe Biden arrived in Europe for his first international tour since he was elected to office last November. The first visit in his itinerary was the United Kingdom for the G7 summit, followed by a visit in Brussels for the NATO and EU-US summit.
Biden was then scheduled to go to Geneva for a much anticipated meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, followed by a meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Biden’s visit to Europe was eagerly anticipated. After Donald Trump’s whimsical presidency, one expects real changes. Biden stressed the strength of the transatlantic alliance and the role of democracy. When he left the summit, he tweeted:
I’m on my way to the U.K. and Europe today for the first foreign trip of my presidency. I know that democracies can rally together to meet the challenges of this new age – this week, in Europe, we have the chance to prove that.
