The Levenseindekliniek, an 'end-of-life clinic' opened in 2012 offering services to patients whose doctors refuse to cooperate with requests for euthanasia or assisted suicide, is to double its capacity.
Starting in the month of June, 30 teams with a total of 60 doctors will be available to help people who are subject to unbearable suffering without any prospect of a cure, as stipulated by the 2001 law on euthanasia.
As it stands, the 180 patients who have requested treatment at the clinic can expect to wait between one and six months. In the future, this time will be reduced to a maximum of four weeks.
