‘The census-takers will come knocking’

The first census of Bosnia-Herzegovina's population since 1991 will begin on October 1.

The exercise risks reviving nationalistic tensions similar to those that sparked the 1992-95 war, because citizens will be able to indicate their nationality (by indicating the administrative unit they answer to) or their ethnic origin (Bosnian, Croat, Serbian, or "other", which, for the most part, means multi-ethnic or Roma), as well as their religion and language, reports Oslobođenje.

Those refusing to provide details can identify themselves as "Bosnian" or "Bosnia-Herzegovian". Census-taking will last until October 15 and early results will be published 90 days later.
