The first Latin American and Jesuit to occupy the post, he has chosen the name Francis, “a sign of simplicity” for a cleric “with a solid command of doctrine who is also a reformer”, writes Corriere.
The newspaper also notes that the 266th sovereign pontiff was born of Italian parents, that he is a “fan of tango” and that he “speaks the Piedmontese dialect.”
