‘Ukrainians fight for the Union’

Published on 25 November 2013

Some 100,000 demonstrators, who gathered in the centre of Kiev on Sunday November 24, called upon President Viktor Yanukovych to change his mind and sign an association agreement with the EU.

Last week the Ukrainian government suspended preparations to sign the document at the Eastern Partnership summit, which is set to begin in Vilnius on Thursday, reports Rzeczpospolita

“We are not Soviet but European Union,” read the banners carried by protesters, who told Rzeczpospolita “they would like their children to have a future instead of being condemned to Russian slavery.”

According to the daily, Sunday’s protests were a “huge success for Yanukovych’s opponents”.
