The collision between European energy transition and the war in Ukraine has created occasionally comical paradoxes. Perhaps the most glaring is that in order to free themselves from the Russian gas fueling their power plants and heating their homes, Europeans have pushed the pedal on renewable energy all while frantically scrambling for gas supplies. They have been helped by the powerful gas lobby, which is heavily promoting liquefied natural gas – a solution that is meant to be temporary, but which the LNG lobby intends to make permanent, as revealed by the long-term investigation conducted by DeSmog journalists and our reporters.
